"Symetrex" This was a departure from my usual creations but a challenge I wanted to attempt. The inspiration came out of my love for old Rastor Grapfic games of the 1980's. This is my malevolent robotic entity.

It was constructed of sheet styrene. I did start with a sketch but let the build create the flow. In the end a mold had to be made because of how fragile it was. Mold created by Javier Contreras.

The finished work is Fiberglass. Lenses provided by Oakley.

  1. Excellent pieces. I just finished your video at Stan Winston's online a couple days ago, and it was really useful. Looking forward to part 2. What's the inspiration for some of these masks that contain the robo-bindi between the eyes? It's an awesome focal point and if it's a direct reference...awesome. If not...still awesome.

  2. It is intentional. "The Third EyeI" I love to think of these being from a far distant time where not only the gear and tech they wear are advanced but the intellect of those who wear them. Augmentation of the mind could be just as empowering as some fantastic armor.

Don't get me wrong they're are Good and Evil characters. . . Just to keep it interesting.

    Thanks for noticing Doug.

    Cheers, Bruce

  3. First of all I want to say superb blog! I had a quick question which I'd like to ask if you don't mind.
I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear
your thoughts before writing. I've had a hard time clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out. I do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Many thanks!

  4. Me? This page?

I don't clear my thoughts. That is something I am not real good at. I just sort of slam through what I feel is the subject and edit on a proof read. I also let my posted picks guide me with visual cues and just pretend I'm writing the description to a very unique catalog.
